The Springboard is an informal peer support group designed to help people get the support and advice they need to make progress in their recovery. Sessions offer users a safe and welcoming space in which to discuss their situation and get the information and support they need to make positive changes, try new approaches and identify services which can help them..

    The Springboard offers:

    • a warm friendly atmosphere
    • trained volunteers available to offer support, advice and information
    • encouragement and support to try new things
    • the opportunity to make friends
    • the chance to talk to people who have lived experience of mental health issues

There are often activities taking place and we have in the past put on taster sessions in art and drama therapy as well as dance and exercise sessions, hand massage, crafts and creative writing. You can try your hand at some of these things and maybe get some inspiration to try something new!

Trying new things in safe spaces can give people the confidence they need to overcome barriers to engagement elsewhere and volunteers will encourage people to get involved and support them to take the first steps.

We occasionally arrange for speakers to come and address the group, to introduce new local services and talk about health care issues so there's always something on offer to inspire and motivate users of the service.

Very Special Guest lends his support to the Springboard Initiative

We were very pleased to welcome Sheffield Mind Ambassador and former world champion boxer, Johnny Nelson to the Springboard recently. He spoke candidly about his own experiences and shared his story of recovery to help encourage and inspire the people in attendance. He was a knockout as you can imagine and was honest and frank about the difficulties he has faced and the challenges he's overcome with the help of friends and peers.
