What is OCD?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterised by unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours (compulsions) carried out to reduce the anxiety those thoughts create.

It's more common than many people realise, and it presents differently from person to person. OCD isn't just about cleanliness or checking the door is locked, it can involve intrusive thoughts about harm, relationships, religion, identity, contamination, and much more.

The good news is that OCD responds well to  right therapy. If you are ready and willing to make changes, we can support you to break the cycle and move forward.

How Private OCD Treatment at Sheffield Mind Works

Getting Started

The first session provides an opportunity to explore what has brought you to therapy and what support you are looking for. Together, we will discuss how we can work effectively together, including confidentiality, expectations, and practical arrangements for your therapy journey.

Regular sessions

Sessions last 50 minutes and take place weekly, either in-person, online or on the phone. We'll agree on a schedule that works for you, and you'll work with the same therapist throughout.

Ongoing review

Therapy is a process that takes time. You and your therapist will regularly check in on how things are going and adjust the focus as your confidence grows.
