Sometimes my work can be challenging, and there are times when I find it easy to dwell upon the loneliness and isolation of the current climate. Often when I feel like this, I will have a call or chat with loved ones and colleagues, but sometimes I don’t want to talk, preferring instead some quiet contemplation.

So, sometimes when I feel disconnected, I make a brew and sit outside, or in my conservatory. I watch my feathered friends on the bird table for a moment, remembering that I don’t always need conversation to not feel isolated, sometimes allowing myself time and space to think, and feel re-connected, whilst in good company.

“Everyone likes birds. What wild creature is more accessible to our eyes and ears, as close to us and everyone in the world, as universal as a bird?” Sir David Attenborough
