Get Set to Go is a peer led model of support to enable people with mental health difficulties to access physical activities on a regular basis.

Alongside our Get Set to Go Coordinator from Sheffield Mind and in association with a wide range of activity and leisure groups in Sheffield, Peer Mentors play a key role in Get Set to Go by supporting people experiencing mental health difficulties to become active. As a result, people will experience better physical health and, we believe, improved mental health.

Peer Mentors provide social support and encouragement to participants to help them feel more confident in being active, perhaps using leisure and sports facilities within their community, either on a one-to-one basis or as part of a group. The relationship between the Peer Mentor and participant is an equal one, working together to promote people’s confidence in accessing or taking part in activities.

Peer Mentors also have opportunity to use their knowledge and experience in the role to help us shape key aspects of Get Set to Go in Sheffield, which may include assisting with the production of training materials and the broader marketing and promotion of Get Set to Go.
