Local artist donates proceeds from book to support better mental health in Sheffield We were recently approached by local artist Jamie Titterton, who told us about his work ‘Playing Field: A Social Artwork (2020) and the book that he has produced to accompany it. Playing Field is a table football machine with a twist, it may resemble a regular football table but actually consists of 22 playable sculptures. ‘quiet monuments to unsung characters’ in the history of football and creativity in the city over the past 175 years. The book that should have accompanied the installation was delayed by – you guessed it, that pesky pandemic –but it’s here at last and is a beautifully illustrated piece telling the story of how the project came to be. It’s a work of art in itself! The book is available as a limited edition of just 100, and consists of 286 pages screen-printed by the artist. Very kindly, Jamie will be donating the proceeds from book sales to us and we are Very Grateful for the support. We spoke to him recently and discussed how creative activities, particularly sharing stories - had helped a lot of people get through the challenges of the last 12 months. The book is available to buy now, priced £40, and is available here https://jamietitterton.square.site If you are interested in seeing the Playing Field sculpture. you can find it at the Sheffield Institute of Arts building (the former Head Post Office of Sheffield) in Fitzalan Square, here are a few images to whet your appetite.
